Peer Pressure
People of our age, like your classmates, are
called peers. When they try to influence how you act, to get you to do
something it’s called peer pressure. It’s something which everyone has to face
from a small kid to adult. The positive influence of peer pressure is for e.g.;
a friend of your science taught you the easiest way to remember the names of
the planets in the solar system or a soccer team friend taught you the cool
trick with the ball. You might admire your sport friend and try to be more like
him. In this way peer positively influence each other every day.
Sometimes peer influence negatively with
each other for example a few friends in college try to cut class with them,
your soccer friend try to be mean to another player and never pass her the
ball.
It is tough to say no to the peer pressure but you can do it. Paying attention to your feelings and beliefs about what is right and wrong can help you know the right thing to do. Inner strength and self confidence can help you stand firm. If you continue to face peer pressure and you re finding it difficult to handle, talk to someone you trust. Dont feel guilty if you’ve made mistake or two. Talking to a parent, teacher, or school counsellor can help you feel much better and prepare you for the next time you face peer pressure.
